Mission
ESSNorteCVP invested in a process of transforming its Campus into an EcoCampus, after the maturity developed as an EcoEscola, based on the 7-step methodology, where in recent years it has developed a set of innovative sustainability actions and solutions for the future. In this sense, we have organized a set of initiatives, materialized in an Annual Activity Plan, involving students, teachers, technical, administrative and management staff, and representatives of external elements. ESSNorteCVP, in this context, adopts Bottom-up mechanisms of collaboration and partnerships with relevant agents in the Entre Douro e Vouga region, as well as in the Porto Metropolitan Area, assuming itself as a focal actor and driver of the regional innovation system, creating value for the community, for the business community and other organizations, with a focus on multi-professional education, applied research, promoting sustainability, responsibility and social inclusion, through high-level training, integrating technical, scientific and cultural aspects , ethical, humanist and promoter of the values of citizenship and the principles of the Portuguese Red Cross.
Thus, the MISSION for an ESSNorteCVP EcoCampus is to “Develop global thought leadership in sustainability and ecology, committed to improving the community in which it operates, through an educational project that promotes interdisciplinary personal and professional development, in a collaborative way, to achieve more and better health and well-being for the entire community.”
For this transformation process, objectives and actions were defined, in 5 main areas of focus: (1) sustainability in policies, planning and management (2) sustainable courses and curricula (3) research and citizen science (4) Provision of services with and for the community and (5) outreach.
Goals
ESSNorteCVP as an EcoCampus aims to be a higher education institution that practices and promotes the minimization of adverse environmental, economic and social impacts in the use of its resources, in order to fulfill its role of teaching and carrying out research, actively involving the knowledge of the academic community to address the ecological and social challenges we face now and in the future.
In order to consolidate an environmentally sustainable, safe and healthy Campus, as a commitment to the Instituting Entity, partners and community, the following Strategic Objectives were defined:
Each Strategic Objective is decomposed into Operational Objectives that comprise associated actions/initiatives/indicators/SDGs and allow for their pursuit to be verified.
