The Ordem dos Enfermeiros, with the publication of Regulation No. 372/2018, of June 15, 2018, created the added competence differentiated in Occupational Nursing, considering the Occupational Nurse, “as the nurse with a concrete knowledge and a systematized thought, in the fields of discipline, profession and Occupational Nursing,
with effective and demonstrated competence in professional practice in the area, which in the context of multidisciplinary action, being responsible for ensuring the nursing care process, to the worker or group of workers, at the time and place of work, guaranteeing comprehensive, preventive, effective and timely; developing a professional practice based on evidence and research; and a professional, ethical and legal practice, in accordance with legal norms, ethical principles and Professional Deontology”.
Thus, the present proposal for the Postgraduate Course in Occupational Nursing fits in with the response to the qualifications provided for in Article 9(2) of the Professional Practice Regulation
of the Nurse, approved by Decree-Law n.º 161/96, of September 4th, and amended by Decree-Law n.º 104/98, of April 21st, which determines that “autonomous actions carried out by nurses, under their sole and exclusive initiative and responsibility, in accordance with the respective professional qualifications, whether in the provision of care, management, teaching, training or advice, with contributions to research in nursing”, in this specific case, for the exercise of the nursing work. The proposal is based on the response to paragraph d) of article 7.º (Requirements) for the Individual Certification of Specialized Increased Competence in
Occupational Nursing, provided for in Regulation No. 372/2018, of June 15, 2018 (Regulation of Increased Differentiated Competence in Occupational Nursing), complying with its Annex II - Training Program for the Attribution of Differentiated Competence in Occupational Nursing Work, observing the Differentiated Added Competence Domains in Occupational Nursing, contained in Annex I of the referred Regulation.
We consider that the present proposal, along with the certification of said competence by the Order of Nurses, will contribute to a more differentiated practice on the part of the occupational nurse, in an integrated and integrative perspective, inserted in the process of professional development and valorization, constituting it self as an effective component for obtaining gains in health, namely the management of professional risk, management of indicators of work accidents and occupational diseases.

Health professionals with Post-Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing provides to the professional skills required to manage professional skills, contributing to sustainable development, increasing competitiveness, improving productivity of organizations and companies, job security and consolidation of a culture of prevention of occupational risks, converging to reduce the costs of health care.

Given the training needs in this area and taking into account the professional development of nurses who are interested in Occupational Nursing, the following general objectives are defined:
