Know how to apply knowledge and ability to understand and solve complex problems, in broad and multidisciplinary contexts, in the area of medical-surgical nursing to people in palliative situations;
Contribute to the development of specialized clinical skills in medical-surgical nursing for people in palliative situations;
Contribute to the training of nurses with skills for the production and application of advanced scientific knowledge, as well as for autonomous, reflective, innovative decision-making based on the best scientific evidence;
Communicate the conclusions, and the knowledge and reasoning underlying them, both to specialists and nonspecialists, in a clear and unambiguous way;
Develop skills that enable nurses to learn lifelong in a self-oriented or autonomous way.
May apply for the course holders of the following academic qualifications:
a) Holders of a Licensed Degree or legally equivalent qualification in Nursing;
b) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree, conferred following a first cycle of studies in Nursing, organized in accordance with the principles of the Bologna process by countries adhering to this process;
c) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree in Nursing, recognized in Portugal, under the terms of Decree-Law no. 283/83, of 21 June, Decree-Law no. 341/2007, of 12 October and the Decree-Law n.º 66/2018, of August 16th and which, cumulatively, meet the following additional requirements:
i) Holders of the professional title of nurse;
ii) Have at least 2 years of professional experience as a nurse.
The course promotes the acquisition of skills defined by the Order of Nurses for the Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Specialization in Nursing for the Person in Palliative Situation, highlighting ethical skills, relational skills and highly complex technical skills.

Develop a professional, ethical and legal practice acting in accordance with legal standards, ethical principles and professional deontology;
Caring for the person with an incurable or severe disease in an advanced, progressive and terminal stage of their caregivers/relatives alleviating their suffering,maximizing their well-being, comfort and quality of life;
Establish a therapeutic relationship with the person in a situation of incurable or severe disease in an advanced, progressive and terminal stage and their caregivers/relatives providing support in the process of adaptation to successive losses, death and monitoring in grief;
Ensure a driving role in the development and support of strategic institutional initiatives in the area of clinical governance.
