Métodos de ensino

The expository methodology will be used and students will be encouraged to participate. The oral expositor method is used and with support of audiovisual projection and textbooks with the teacher´s notes. Research is incentivated, with eventual preparation, presentation and discussion of group and/or individual works.
The final evaluation will be obtained by two written tests (50% + 50%).


Objetivos de Unidade Curricular

- Recognize the importance of nurses in the effective management of the drug regimen, especially in the preparation, administration and monitoring phases;
- Understand of the basic principles of pharmacology;
- Identify pharmaceutical forms available and how different administration routes;
- Describe the general cycle of drugs not body;
- Understand concepts of pharmacodynamic processes that are associated with drug action on various body systems;
- Recognize Adverse Effects and Possible Interactions;
- Identify on a clinic situation, with bases and knowledge acquired, the problem and potential forms of resolution;
- Understand and recognize the major drug classes, its mechanisms of action and its applications and relevant aspects to clinical practice.

Programa

1. General pharmacology: introduction to Pharmacology; dosage form and route of administration; medicines legal framework in Portugal.
2. Pharmacokinetics and molecular mechanism of drug action.
3. Functional aspects of central and autonomic nervous system.
4. Central nervous system pharmacology. Psychostimulants, anxiolytics, antiepileptics and antidepressants5. Pharmacology of pain and inflammation. Analgesics, non-steroidal and steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and anaesthetic.
6. Cardiovascular system pharmacology. Cardiotonic, antiarrhythmic, antihypertensives and diuretic agents.
7. Pharmacology of Drugs Affecting Blood. Coagulation. Antidyslipidemic drugs.
8. Respiratory system pharmacology. Bronchodilators, antitussives, expectorants and mucolytic agents.
9. Pharmacology of the gastrointestinal tract. Modifiers of gastric secretion and motility. Antacids and antiemetics.
10. Pharmacology of the endocrine system and related drugs. Antidiabetic and oral contraceptive agents.
11. Pharmacology of Infectious Diseases. Major antibiotic classes, antifungals and antivirals.
