Métodos de ensino

The course is semi-annual and consists of lectures, theoretical-practical and tutorial guidance. There will be used the expository methods, interrogative and active, using the analysis of case studies to better assimilation of content worked. Use It will also demonstrative method, in which the faculty performs the technical and trains every student in the correct application and proper interpretation of them, emphasizing the implementation of assessment and osteopathic intervention by the students tasks. continuous assessment strategies and the final evaluation will be used. The final assessment will result from the completion of a written test about the theoretical concepts and the fundamentals of the practical component and with the elaboration and discussion of a group work. The final classification results as follows: written test 70% and group work 30%.


Objetivos de Unidade Curricular

- Knowing the characteristics of the aging process and the different domains of quality of life;

- Identifying the skills, principles and fundamentals of action Osteopath in geriatrics; properly use appropriate assessment tools;

- Know, assess and intervene appropriately in the main pathologies associated with geriatrics;

- Explain coherently the underlying clinical reasoning to the mechanism of action and physiological effects of osteopathic techniques, including functional techniques and fascias;

- Run correctly the different types of osteopathic techniques used in geriatrics, enumerating its indications and contraindications.

- The aging process - quality of life and the physical, environmental, emotional, psychological and personal relationships;
- Principles, fundamentals and clinical reasoning in osteopathy applied to geriatrics;
- Osteopathy and chronic pain;
- Role of osteopathic treatment of geriatric user; osteopathic evaluation and assessment tools;
- Differential diagnosis;
- Allopathic treatment notions - medication;
- Diagnosis and decision osteopathic intervention in geriatrics; most common diseases in geriatrics; osteopathic intervention in the most common pathologies in geriatrics;
- Fascial techniques and osteopathic functional techniques - specific intervention in osteopathy;
- Importance of muscular intervention and articulate, cranial sacral, cranial, fascial and visceral in geriatrics;
- Prognosis in geriatrics;
- Indications and contraindications of osteopathy in geriatrics;
- Discussion of clinical cases.
